OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Agent, a digital assistant that doesn’t just talk — it acts. It operates a full virtual computer with access to a browser, command line, files, and APIs like Gmail, Google Calendar, and OpenTable. In real terms? It can schedule meetings, build presentations, buy groceries, and fill out online forms — all autonomously, pending your approval.
The tech is a fusion of previous tools like Operator (autonomous browsing) and Deep Research (in-depth tasks), now leveled up with real-time execution. It can visually navigate interfaces like a human, but with one key upgrade: it doesn’t sleep, doesn’t complain, and never misses a deadline.
Security first. Then, limitless productivity.
To avoid chaos, the Agent only performs irreversible actions — like purchases or emails — with explicit user permission. It’s also equipped with threat detection to block risky behavior on sensitive or financial sites. Sam Altman has warned: it’s powerful, but still experimental. Even so, early access is already rolling out to developers.
